From 1915 to 1980, the Association was named NUEA (National University Extension Association), and from 1980 to 1996 NUCEA (National University Continuing Education Association). In 1996, the name was shortened to UCEA (University Continuing Education Association) to recognize an increasing focus on international education as well as our affiliates from other countries. To reflect changes in the programs offered at our member institutions, the Association name was again changed in 2010 to UPCEA (University Professional & Continuing Education Association).
