Working with a team of program managers, a graphics coordinator and database coordinator, this annual, academic-staff position is responsible for the overall coordination of advertising and marketing operations. Position One: Preliminary Administrative Services Credential

Teach courses in the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential program including classes focused on school leadership, instructional leadership, and organizational behavior. Coordinate and advise a cohort of Preliminary Administrative Services Credential candidates. Supervise fieldwork for credential students. Teaching assignments at CSU East Bay include courses at both the Hayward and Concord campuses. Position Two:  MS Degree Research Cohort

Assistant Dean of Non-Credit Programs, School of Continuing Studies

Northwestern University

The Assistant Dean provides senior leadership for the development, delivery and management of Non-Credit Programs, specifically, Corporate Education, Professional Development programs, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) and CFP programs. The incumbent has primary administrative responsibilities for collaborating and cooperating with the schools and the college who partner with SCS in assuring quality programs and instruction. The recruitment of faculty to teach students for existing and new programs is also a primary responsibility of the Assistant Dean.

The Assistant Dean works with the Director of Marketing & Communications to develop a recruitment strategy for the programs and is responsible for creating an annual Non-Credit Programming and fiscal plan for submission to the Dean.

Principal accountabilities include:

  • Providing leadership and management on a daily basis for planning, scheduling, delivery and maintenance of Non-Credit Program activity, including advising the development of new business in Non-Credit Programming;
  • Interacting with academic leadership and faculty of Northwestern University to identify new non-credit markets while maintaining excellence in courses and programs and to sustain quality instruction in all educational activity;
  • Developing curriculum for new programs, in consultation with Dean of the School of Continuing Studies and Associate Dean of Academics;
  • Collaborating with the Director of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), Director of Corporate Education and Director of CFP Programs to develop and implement ideas for improving business processes, and increasing program revenues and margins;
  • Enhancing customer relationship management by developing systems to improve customer service and increase student recruitment and retention;
  • Working with registration and other units within SCS on new systems to improve student and faculty services;
  • Conducting market research, analyzing programming efforts of other schools and preparing reports of programming information to determine viability of current or new programming for SCS;
  • Collaborating with Registration on delivery and analysis of enrollment trends;
  • Assisting Assistant Dean of External Affairs in revenue and expense forecasting;
  • Performing budget reconciliation with the Assistant Dean of Finance & Administration;
  • Managing academic calendar for Professional Development programs;
  • Organizing the support staff structure and delegating duties and providing general supervision of staff;
  • Formally recommending hiring, promotion and termination of departmental exempt and non-exempt staff;
  • Performing other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • A PhD or the equivalent combination of experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired;
  • 3-5 years of leadership experience in higher education environment;
  • Ability to complete academic planning for adult student population;
  • Strong technical skills;

With 25,000+ participants each year, the School is the largest provider of noncredit continuing education in Southeastern Wisconsin.

The Dean provides vision and leadership to faculty and staff in fulfilling the School’s mission of outreach, continuing education, research, and public service. The Dean is responsible for fiscal and human resource management, as well as strategic planning that guides the development, implementation and on-going sustainability of diverse educational programs, including working successfully with a faculty and staff of 80 and a budget of $12 million. In addition, the Dean oversees the management of conference facilities, including a 100,000 square foot, state-of-the-art continuing education conference facility in downtown Milwaukee. The Dean is also responsible for advising the University administration on matters relating to the outreach mission of the university, a Ph.D.-granting, research university, with thirteen schools and colleges enrolling over 28,000 degree seeking students. The Dean will be expected to facilitate the involvement of the University’s schools and colleges in outreach and continuing education; oversee and sustain effective collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Extension; and work aggressively to build community partnerships that foster program development and generate revenue.

Qualifications: A doctoral degree and strong academic credentials. Substantial background and experience in continuing education, professional development, higher education administration, applied research and/or community outreach. Appointment would require qualifications consistent with a faculty appointment with tenure.

An ideal candidate for this position is one who can demonstrate:

  • Ability to maintain and strengthen relationships with a wide range of constituencies, including internal faculty and staff, and external business, government, non-profit and community-based organizations
  • Entrepreneurial capacity to build community connections that will generate new programs and initiatives as well as expand extramural grants and contracts to support the School
  • Understanding of and commitment to the School of Continuing Education’s and the University’s vision and research mission
  • Ability to work within and exert effective leadership in a complex organization
  • Academic or equivalent administrative and management experience at the level of department chair or above in an institution of higher education
  • Experience in the management and administration of cost recovery budgets, personnel and/or facilities
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and inspire staff
  • Capacity to effectively promote and market the expertise and capacity of the School of Continuing Education in a diverse metropolitan area within which the City of Milwaukee is a minority majority city.
  • Ability to promote continuing education as a source of economic and workforce development
  • Sensitivity and commitment to equal opportunity and diversity in working with both internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and the community and state at large
  • Ability to provide creative leadership in the University’s use of emerging technologies and nontraditional means of delivering instruction and technical assistance
