Conference Tracks
Download this page as a PDF file here.
Track One: Workforce Development for a Global Economy
To compete in todays global economy, communities recognize
that they must maintain and retain a high quality workforce. Policymakers
and employers look to continuing education to supply the critical
infrastructure needed to provide ongoing learning to the workforce.
Sessions in this track will address a variety of questions surrounding
the role of those on the front-line of these initiatives.
Track Two: Civil Society and Community Engagement
Continuing education is often the means by which higher education
engages different communities to help build a stronger civic life
and to ensure a civil society. Presentations in this track will
focus on the varied dimensions of civic engagement.
Track Three: Global Thinking/Local Impact
The emerging global economy is allowing continuing education to
reach out to international audiences, while creating new demands
for service to local workforce and cultural communities. The Internet
and digital communications systems have brought the global audience
to our doorstep, yet the traditional classroom setting remains an
important need for many local audiences. Presentations in this track
will address global outreach, administrative and programmatic challenges
and opportunities associated with trans-national university partnerships,
quality assurance, the role of study abroad and foreign language
training programs, curriculum, and teaching styles in a global society.
Track Four: Continuous Re-invention: The Value and Values of Continuing
Education
Continuing education is able to serve many constituents because
of its proactive orientation, innovative strategies, and flexibility.
Continuing educators are often the first in our institutions to
recognize and respond to community problems and the needs of new
professions. Presentations in this track will address changes in
society that are moving continuing education more into the mainstream
of our institutions, requiring a continuous re-evaluation of the
value of continuing education and the values continuing education
professionals bring to the task.
