Continuing Education Partnerships

Continuing education's evolution in modern U.S. higher education will be examined in its historical context. The module provides an overview of American higher education from the colonial period to the modern era, examining the roots of adult and continuing education as manifested in various distance learning formats. Correspondence courses, the corporate classroom, evening classes, the Web and various non-traditional approaches will be examined. The course is designed to provide an understanding of how and why CE programs of the modern university came into being.
